Akron's Summit Lake is a beautiful urban lake that has suffered from water pollution by industrial factories as the neighborhood around it faces challenges of disinvestment and blight. Once the site of an amusement park that saw thousands of visitors every weekend, the lake is now rarely used recreationally. The current signage posted around the lake informs visitors of what they cannot do (no wake, no swimming, etc.). I created this positive signage to slowly begin to change perception of the lake as a place of negativity to one of positivity and to invite residents to reimagine their own relationship with the lake. I partnered with the City of Akron to install the signs.
